Wausau West Boys Hockey
Congratulations to the Wausau West Warriors Boys Hockey Team for making it to the 2010 Wisconsin State Boys Hockey Tournament championship game. Sadly, the team’s stellar play throughout the regular season did not carry forward to the championship game, resulting in a stunning loss for West and its failure to capture a first-ever state title.
And congratulations to University School, whose brillant play in the first period of the championship game created a deficit that proved to be too large for West to overcome. University School scored 4 unanswered goals in the first period. University School Coach, Cal Roadhouse, now has two state championships under his belt.

I want to know what sort of evidence you hockey fans have of “recruiting” done by West. Yes West gained transfer students, but there was no recruiting involved. In any case, who would need to be recruited to want to play for a winning program like West who has a very highly respected, smart, and experienced coach. You can only play high school hockey once in your life and maybe that means you want to play for a coach who knows what he’s talking about so you can have the best experience possible. It’s obvious to me that most fans still envy what we have on the West side. It must be a sign of jealousy, to deal with the fact that our school had a successful season. We find it comical that we are still getting bashed for having a team that isn’t “legit.” In the end it all comes down to our school having class, and dedication to a sport we thrive in. Congrats West on a successful season!
Agree wholeheartedly. We all get what we deserve in the end. My heart goes out to the legitimate West players who are talented and loyal to their school. As it turns out, they made more of a contribution during the regular season and state tournament play than the illegitimate imports. The imports were at best a distraction and created a divisive situation for the core team. But just because justice was ultimately served in this instance with West pooching the championship game does not mean that WIAA should not do a better job of policing coaches’ recruiting and questionable student transfers.
Looks like the bad Kharma from questionable recruiting and eligibility of transfer students (hockey players transferring to West for “academic” reasons) caught up with West. We all get what we deserve in the long run. Congratulations to University School!
